Hornady 458 Lott Brass
Well I finally broke down while waiting for my RSM 500 Jeffery Rebore and bought a RSM 458 lott. I have no brass and I was looking to order some from Midway. Here's my question what the difference between 458 Lott Brass and Magnum Basic brass. Since there is about $10 difference in price (Mag Basic being cheaper). Are they interchangable or not? I understand the head stamp issue for customs travel but I just need some good plinking brass to relaod.

Thanks Brad Smiler

No worries. Of course you have to size it down and trim it to spec, but the Hornady basic is good, and as close as you will get to the Hornady factory .458 Lott as possible.
I have used it to make 470 Capstick and .375 Weatherby with excellent results.

You might want to anneal yours after necking down from straight cylindrical.

I would pay the 20 cents each difference for the Hornady stuff. And to not have to work the basic over, and it is headstamped to boot.

I've use the basic stuff and it's a bit of a chore to get trimmed to length but it works just fine.

Isn't Jaimison brass available anymore? They ran a little cheaper than Hornady.

I agree with Hog Killer - 20 cents a case probably isn't worth your time.

Thanks for the information. I agree if there is significant extra work involved I'll go with the Lott Brass to start. Sometimes brass runs dry up and I wanted to know if this was something I could fall back on.

Thanks
