375 trajectory question
If I have a 375 H&H sighted in like 1 to 1.5 inches high at 125 yards - where should it shoot at 25 - 50 - 200 yards. Range rules prevent me from moving the target to those distances.

Thanks,

Mike

You can get exact numbers off of http://www.jbmballistics.com/cgi-bin/jbmtraj-5.1.cgi

You just have to know the exact bullet and velocity.

I ran that through the Federal Ballistics program using a sighting line 1.5" above the center of the bore and a zero distance of 125 yards. I know you said 1.5" at 125 yards but I am a firm believer of the 125 yard zero for almost all big game rounds. The 125yd zero will give you a flatter trajectory out to 200yds than sighting in for 1.5" at 125yds will.

Using six (6) different 300gr factory loads with muzzle velocities of 2400-2500fps, and B.C.s of 0.253-0.398 - All shot within (calculated):
  • -0.3" to -0.4" at 25yds
  • 0.3" to 0.4" at 50yds
  • 0.6" to 0.6" at 75yds
  • 0.5" to 0.6" at 100yds
  • Zero at 125yds
  • -1.0" to -1.1" at 150yds
  • -2.5" to -2.8" at 175yds
  • -4.4" to -5.1" at 200yds

Using three (3) different factory loads of 250gr, 260gr, and 270gr with muzzle velocities of 2670fps, 2700fps, and 2690fps respectfully and B.C.s of 0.340, 0.470, and 0.323 respectfully - All shot within (calculated):
  • -0.5" to -0.6" at 25yds
  • 0.1" at 50yds
  • 0.4" at 75yds
  • 0.4" at 100yds
  • Zeroed at 125yds
  • -0.7" to -0.8" at 150yds
  • -1.8" to -2.0" at 175yds
  • -3.3" to -3.7" at 200yds

Your shot-to-shot placement will vary more than the spreads in trajectory at the different distances.

What scope and reticle are you using?

    Swarovski Z6i 1-6X24
    CZ 375 H&H - AHR modification - 23 inch barrel
    Federal 300 grain swift a-frames

The reticle I think is the dangerous game reticle - illuminated outer circle and illuminated cross hair point.

Lion in Burkina in 7 days - it stalking only hunt - so the shot is going to be quick and have to count

I have shot a fair amount of plains game with this rifle and scope

Been shooting at a 15 inch gong at 125 yards off hand for practice

Federal 300gr Swift A-frame with muzzle velocity of 2450fps and B.C. of 0.325:
  • -0.4" at 25yds
  • 0.3" at 50yds
  • 0.7" at 75yds
  • 0.6" at 100yds
  • Zero at 125yds
  • -1.0" at 150yds
  • -2.6" at 175yds
  • -4.6" at 200yds

I don't know what the subtensions are for their Illuminated Circle Dot reticle but within 150 yards it doesn't matter.

"Your shot-to-shot placement will vary more than the spreads in trajectory at the different distances."

    That is correct.

I sight my 375/404 about 1.5-2.0 inches at 100 yards.

It generally shoots at point of aim at about 180 yards.

Never used a drop table, as I have no idea what the drop is for our own Walterhog bullets.

I have been using this setup for many years, shooting animals up to 500 yards away.
