Looking for some relatively cheap ammo that the cases will be reloadable. Any suggestions??

Only real suggestion is hornady DGX

Cup and core type bullet, and the cheapest factory .416 rigby ammo out there that I have found.

50 grains 5744 and a 350-grain cast boolit. Half the bang on the shoulder, dollars a box of reloads instead of a couple hundred. BTDT.

Try Rimrock, Beartooth and other casting companies. Ask for the 350-grain 22 Brinell, gas checked design.

Cheap and factory 416 Rigby ammunition don't go together, at least not for me. Most that I've seen was from $80.00 to $100.00 + per box of twenty.

When I built my rifle I bought 100 rounds of Norma brass and started with that and Hornady bullets as the cheapest solution and that wasn't what I would call cheap.

Occasionally one of the reloading supply companies will have a really good sale on brass or ammo that hasn't sold well for them. I've managed to get 470 and 500-416 brass at near give away prices that way.

Keep checking Mid Way, Graff's and similar companies you never know what might be on sale.

Not cheap, but I've got 20 boxes (five cart. per box) of new Kynoch 416 Rigby soft nose, and 7 boxes of Kynoch solids - all 410-grain bullets. If you buy in quantity, I'll let them go for $46 per box, plus shipping.

I've also got other Nitro calibers for sale - all Kynoch.

Agree with others that cast is the way to go and buying new brass much cheaper than any factory ammo. With the right hardness and sizing you can drive cast to near enough jacketed velocity. Mid range, 1800-2000fps, loads are great for practice and squib loads at 1500fps very cheap and easy on the gun and shoulder and usually outstandingly accurate.

Cases will last forever with cast and occasional annealing.

I'm loading the RCBS 350 grain bullet with 30.0 grains of Trail Boss. Cheap to load and easy to shoot.

The 5744 is loaded as 40% of the volume from the base of the case up to the ass end of the bullet.

Trail Boss is 70% of available volume.

Best way is to fill the case up to the bottom of the neck, weigh, and figure the correct percentage.

Keep your velocity below 2,200 fps. Above that, and you will get leading, gas checked or not.

1,900 - 2,000 fps is about right. You get a good shove, but nothing overwhelming.

I had three boxes of the older Hornady Round nose bullets in .416, still have one box left. If I ever get the chance to go to Africa, I will load those up to 2,350 fps, and shoot those until it is time to go.
