I feel the need for a new .458 bore. I also what something a little different. So after I rid myself of the 50 Beowulf, what should I get?

Currently I am giving serious consideration to:

1.) Weatherby MkV in 460 Weatherby magnum

2.) Savage 116 in 458 Win mag

Considering these two because they are made in the good ol' USA and owned by Americans. I currently have enough "Euro trash" , and like I said earlier want something a little different.

I second Kev's idea but then I am a bit of a cz fiend

It all comes down to covering margins for error.



Some might suggest a whole bottle of lithocarb, a noose and a high chair and either calibre in the mouth.



This should cover most eventualities.

Mr. Sweet, you need to swear off those low budget clunkers like savage and wby and get yourself a quality rifle. I suggest a Searcy PH model in 470 or 500. They have a pretty quick turnaround right now, and it only takes a 50% deposit for them to get started.

Actually those rifles are low budget clunkers in their world, aren't they. Did handle my first Merkel 140.2 the other day. It was a 470 NE and it did balance well. The sight alignment was good too. Unfortunately the LOP was about 1.5" to 2" short. I even had permission to buy!

This rifle would be a beater, not a nice gun. This is the reason I was thinking of the Savage since it is entirely stainless steel so it should handle wet conditions well. The Weatherby is considered, well just because I have owned one in the past, and beating one up won't bother me in the least!

Is your 460 Weatherby a MkV? I once owned a Weatherby MkV in 460 Weatherby mag and it was not a comfy shooter! I know how to fix this condition though.

I will not comment your current inventory Why not a nice 450 Rigby rimless on a mauser action or a Dakota 76?



A option worth thinking of is a CZ 550 "customized" in 450 Rigby rimless

If you want a cheap one, I think it would be best to get a cz550 or win m70 in .458. Later you can convert them to .458 lott very easily. If you are going to use the gun in the rain, then put some oil in the bore.

In the past, I had a MkV .460Wby. Now I have a Heym Express Bolt .460 and the recoil is about 60% less than the weatherby rifle.

That is wise considering you have no clue what is in the inventory.

500grains, I have considered those. I really don't want another CZ550. The M70, in reality, is the preferred rifle. The Savage intrigues me though, the Weatherby is just well a Weatherby.
