Why the hell did they not make it a little beefer and just add on a few hundred. Hell I would pay that for a side by side 458. How much does it cost to beef it up with some more freaking steel say it was retail 899. I am still buying it if it is 458.

I just wish it had a higher pressure so I could put some of the 45-70 garrett Plus loads in it they have a SAMI of 38 or something. I dont want it to be a boom stick.
All bitching aside I am still buying at least one for the hell of it. Mostly to piss off the bigbore bubbas that dont like the 45-70.

I most likely well buy one for a hound bear gun. if I could get a 400gr hard cast to regulate at about 1600 or so I think it would be just about right to chase them in the thick stuff.

I picked up one of the mythical Remington doubles at the NRA convention. (It may have been the only one in existance). It was fun to look at but it is very light. It felt like 7.5 pounds to me. Personaly I think that with warmish 45-70 loads most mortals will have about all the recoil they want. just my humble opine.

If you own a gun and you are not a member of the NRA and other pro 2nd amendment organizations then YOU are part of the problem.

at last weekend's bubba/stc hunt, we had the owner of firing a CZ 458 double rifle, converted to 458 lott. it is 8.25#.. entirely managable..

i shoot wicked 45/70 loads in a handrifle... 6#2oz... now THAT stucks.. and yeah, it's ruger loads.

i am thinking a 7.5# 45 somthing double will be super neat... and a # of tungstun is fairly small

Roger, that 7.5 lb double is going to be interesting with decent loads with a 45-70 case! Eeker Big Grin

Rough count 35 yes, 12 maybe's. Figuring on a roughly 50% drop out rate you're looking at 23-24 rifles. Of course if Remington actually said that they'd do it and you put this on other boards you'd probably get another 50 or so orders.

It looks to me like I'll just sit back and watch.....the guns might make it here in 2006....I'm not betting on it...but I suspect the used price will be much more attractive as I suspect they'll be in used racks big time in the following year.

Has anyone ever laid the paws on one? The pics on the Spartan website doesn't show if it has seperated tubes like their O/U's or are they joined like a regular SXS?

I"ll take one also but if the tubes are seperated it'll be UGLY!

Mike,

I handled one in the Remington booth at the NRA Show in Houston this spring. The barrels have top and bottom ribs, with a jackscrew adjustment under the bottom rib to regulate the barrels for what ever load you are using.

But,,,Doesn't (pussy, or was that cat?)one of our most voracious .45-70 proponents have one already? Doesn't he keep it on his boat he uses to guide bear hunters in AK?

NO? Confused

Don't tell me it's not true!! bewildered

In all seriousness I also think that little bugger would be a great hog/dog rifle. It'd be a fun rifle in any case.

I think I'll just wait until they are retail available if and when that EVER happens.

I kind of wish they came with 26 inch barrels. I heard a rumor once that they were going to be chrome lined, I hope not. That'll play hell on a reamer. NitroX, you are not helping the problem by posting those photos!!!!!! But don't stop.

I've already thrown my hat in the ring as I definitely want one of these. It isn't in the league of my other doubles but I reckon it would be lot of fun - and I intend to leave it as a .45/70 with no modifications (I already have a .470 and am planning the purchase of a .500 so why would I 'dick' with a perfectly good .45/70?).

So, CR500, how do you envisage we Ozzies would do this? I am already planning to buy a new Winchester 1895 TD and bring it back from a bear hunt I am planning. I am thinking that I might be able to add the Spartan into that plan, providing they available by then.

I'd like one. I don't own a 45-70 any more and this would be a lot of fun to have and play with.

Use and good practice are always good for hunters. Having something cheaper to own and feed will promote both.

Good luck.

Mike

same story, different verse and backbeat...

short version, they are now promised for "first quarter 2006" (i DID ask which year, as they told me "first quarter")

long verion
The spartan product manager left remington. The new product manager hasn't been named yet, but the product team is still trying to work along to scheduled tests.

well, my birthday is in June.. perhaps they'll be in for that.. SOME year

oh, btw, cats is full of STUFF if he says he was the REMINGTON SPARTAN double .. he MIGHT have a baikal double (or 2).. but it doesn't say remington on it, as (with the traveling show exception) every one of these that has come in hahs been tested to high pressure and then subjected to destructive testing of what's left

there is not ONE shooting REMINGTON SPARTAN double RIFLE in the hands of a single distributor, dealer, or person. In fact, there's not one outside of the immediate custody of remington.

cats, if you read this, and decide to bluster up, unless you are willing to post PICTURES I will be believing the remington corporate people rather than you.

yeah yeah , you won't post pictures because.....
