CZ 589 O/U double???
The PH I hunted with in Tanzania this year had one of these CZ doubles in 458 and just absolutely loved it. It was regulated or at least shot the Federal solids and softs to POA 50yd. I handled the rifle and it pointed as well as any shotgun and seemed to me to be a real alternative to a side by side.

When I got home I pulled out my CZ catalogue and found that these guns are only about $3000.00 retail.

Does anyone know anything about this rifle and why it is or isn't in reality as good a stopper as a side by side?

Soory, but I'm going to have to pass on any double chambered in a rimless cartridge. Especially one that runs high pressure. Trouble with a capital "T" [Eek!]

your PH has an exceedingly rare rifle...

i think less than 10 were imported to the US...

and for godo reason...

High pressure, rimless case...

The ONLY way to "save" one would be to chamber for the lott, and run at lower pressure... that is, shoot it at 458 velocites, in the lott.

besides, it's an over and under...

How 'bout rechambering to a 450 No. 2

It only has two drawbacks, #1 458 Win Mag, belted rimless, high pressure cartridge, and #2 it is an Over Under! [Roll Eyes]

It IS worth $3000, if you spend another $800 or so to get JJ at Champlin's to re-chamber it to the low pressure, 450#2 NE 3.25", and re-regulate in necessary! I would never rechamber to 458 LOTT! There is the danger of someone trying to shoot hot LOTT loads in the thing, and you are still saddled with a rimless round. [Confused]
