ozhunter22" or 24" barrel 458LOTT
A friend is setting up a new CZ 458LOTT and might use the 550grn Woodleighs for Ele and Buff.
He want's to reduce the stock and barrel and make it a brake down so it fits into a 800mm case.
How would a 22" barrel be for the 458LOTT, in particular with the big 550grn bullets?

Die Ou JagterI would think it would be great. He is only looking for up close and personal shots. I would even consider 20".

surestrikeI find 22" to be just about perfect with the Lott. It chronos to listed velocity with a 22" as well.
I just bought one that has a 23" barrel and I've owned two with a 21" barrel. You aren't losing anything at 22 inches.

HammerAll my Lotts have had 26-inch barrels. No problems yet.

465H&HI had the same problem trying to decide between a 22" and 24" barrel for my Lott. I just cut the difference and settled for a 23" barrel. It has worked just fine for me on both elephant and buff using the 550 grain Woodleigh bullets it both soft and solid form. The PHs that have handled it were all impressed with how short and quick it was to the shoulder.

When you whack off the barrel behind the front sight the barrel comes out about 22.5 inches. When the full power 550 gr. loads go off I doubt anything on either end really knows or cares about what barrel length it is.

My lott is a CZ and has 24" barrel. It shoots the 500 gr Hornady bullet at 2280 FPS using IMR4320 powder.
