JefferyDenmarkRe: .500 Jeffery with Impala Bullet
AC
I am just trying the Impala bullets for test and kicks.
I like testing a new product. I might use then when hunting in Argentina with Juan Pozzi to see the effect of the volocity wich I would like to be around 800 m/sec.
The recoil of the Impala bullet load is very nice

bench rest is no problem

I like the 535 woodleigh and will always have then as first choice.
The 113 grn of N140 gave 2235 fps with the 535 woodleigh SP.
Not enough, next load will be 117 grn. I want 2400 fps

ASS_CLOWNAndre,
I would back off ~ 5% and go to the next faster powder, which I believe is VN 135??? Work back up from there.
The accuracy may be a function of the bullet design itself. As I understand it, the bullet is conically pointed with a relatively short cylindrical shank. Not the best design for aerodynamic stability. You will more than likely need to test several loads, but I think you will find that the heavier bullets are more accurate. At least I did, but then I did not test any Impala 370 gr bullets either.
Actually, I would skip these lightweights and just use the 535 gr Woodleighs, but that is me.

I just reloaded the first batch of .500 Jeffery with 370 grn Impala bullets.
They look cool
Case: Honeber
Bullet: Impala 370 grn solid Mono metal
Powder: N140 113 grn.
Primer: CCI 250
C.O.L. 92,13 mm
This load should drive the bullet to around 800 m/sec

Thank you.
I will be going to Argentina in March next year.
The knife hunting with the Dogos should be very interesting.
And the .500 Jeffery will also strike with cruel and unusual punishment

ASS_CLOWNAndre,
Them thar are some very pointy bullets. It appears you get 16 in a box, what do they cost? Might be fun to see what I can get out of them.

They are not very expensive about the same as woodleigh $25 a box of 16. Rand 156.
They are very accurate in the 375 H&H.
Christer (CChunter) did a nice group.
http://www.impalabullets.co.za/home.htmAC this is what a 458 win mag does at 2474 fps

The .500 Jeffery will do more and +2600 is the goal for me.
