PCPH actions to Oz any Aussies no about tarrif import fees etc ??
Any Aussies no about the tarrif fees and other associated costs that will charged for rifle actions in to Australia.
The PH actions are $525 US so you have the base figure dependant on FX rate, but what other costs tarrifs etc. will be applied and what will they cost ?? I have put my name down for three PH actions and someone told me today that tarrif costs could add another 40% to the cost of the action !!!!!

Stu CPC,
Did I give you a link to Customs before? This is what I received when inquiring about importing actions about a year ago
"Calculating Customs duty and GST is not within the expertise of this
Section, however I believe that Customs duty on rifle parts is 5%.
GST is applied at the rate of 10% of the Value of the Taxable Importation
(VoTI). The VoTI is equal to the sum of the Customs value plus Customs duty
plus the cost of transporting the goods to Australia and for insuring the
goods for that transport. GST is thus not only payable on the value of the
goods but also the service charges involved in the transport of the goods to
Australia.
For more details regarding duty and GST contact information@customs.gov.au
If you have any further enquiries regarding firearm parts please contact me
on cpractweapons@customs.gov.au "
You've got two contacts there. Should get you all the right info.

PCThanks Stu,
that is very helpful, my gundealer told me the Tax duty would equate to 40% of the price and I got worried as I have placed an order for 3 PH actions, can always sell one if I decide to. It would sell easy I think.
I will print this off and keep it. Thanks PC.

Mike375PC,
I think it will be about 30%. The 40% figure was when sales tax was 20% and to that was added the 20% import duty.
Now it will be 10% plus the 20%.
Mike

PCThanks Mike so if I add 30% to the price of the action after FX rates then I will be in the ball park ??

mark smithPC I just received a Montana long action. It cost me $148 in customs GST etc. The worst thing is dealing with FedEx and customs. FedEx are hopeless and I had requested that MRC use the post office but my wishes were ignored. Customs are no better, they currently have my 2 MRC short actions. My import permit was for the three actions but they kept the permit and although it was for the three actions they insist that I get another permit!
Ifyou are interested in seeing the action I have email me , I live in Melbourne.

GrandpasezI wonder if some good machinist/gunnut/gunsmith,
down under could get together with MRC, and get actions needing final work/finish/machining/
from them. Then the shipping would be raw materials between businesses, and all you Aussies would have a supply, MRC would make extra sales
of castings, and local factory would make some
with finishing. And an Aussie compnany selling direct gets rid customs crap. A golden opportunity????Ed.

Bad Ass WallaceI saw a PH action in Rebel Gun Works (Brisbane)yesterday for $AU590 inc GST (looked unused). No extra tarrifs on this one. You could probably buy two complete rifles S/H here for less than that $US price.
28 November 2003, 01:55
cr500Ordered 3 of them. Jeeze PC ,what are you going to build up. Something tells me its not going to be a 223 or 308. I take it ,its going to something big and different??? Whats the latest project. Maybe the 585 Nyati is just not enough these days. The roos down there better keep their heads down.
30 November 2003, 00:12
PCCR 500 one is going to be a .338 lapua tactical "cool" looking rifle with no real use
I am thinking I would like to do another .585 Nyati but this time in full African trim and no scope etc.
The third I am not sure if I even need it but hey there at a good price and it's hard to get an action with a .8" diamter bolt.
30 November 2003, 20:18
cr500A 338 lapua, should make a good rabbit rifle hey. How about a Nitro express caliber for one of the others? It would be cheaper way to get a 577 or 600 NE.
30 November 2003, 23:19
PCCR 500,
I have dies & brass for the .585 but I suppose a .600 Nitro would work but would you be better opting for the .600 OK ??
I would really like to have a .700 cal of some sort that would work through the PH action if at all possible.

choppaPC,
When you get settled in, give us a yell, I have plenty of Roo oppurtunities down where I am, I live about 2 hours from Melbourne, I too would love to see the Nyati in action, same same for you too 416SW.
01 December 2003, 23:40
PCYeah when I get settled in I will e-mail you blokes off line.
02 December 2003, 01:20
KarlPC,
If you are tossing up another 585 anyway what about the biggest version of Robs 600 OK/horneber brass, and neck it down to 577 or even 550?
600 is always stuck with 900grainers of .330 SD or so and velocity/splatter will thus suffer on animals a bit far out
With a 577/600OK you could push bullets into 338win mag territory.

PCKarl,
thats a good idea but it seems hard and complicated if you know what I mean. But it's worth consdiering, but the .585 Nyati is such a practical calibre.......

I hope that the PH action comes to pass, but so far it is just a bunch of hot air and may turn out to be just another fantasy action that never comes into being. I have one on order, but I am making other plans because the 'estimated' delivery date has been pushed so far into the future.
06 December 2003, 11:06
PCWell 500,
we can only hope and remain positive that it will I suppose, I mean what more can one do. I suppose people need to order up and get the show on the road.

Kos
I think he was referring to the Parker Hale (hence PH) action in the pistol cabinet. There's a nice commercial FN action there as well.
