Trim pilot for 404 Jeffery case
What do you fellas use or where do I find a trim pilot for the 404 Jeffery case.

I have a Lyman trimmer but I don't think they offer that size pilot. Thought I would ask before trying to make one.

Many Thanks

I don't think any of the major companies make a pilot for the .423" (I guess you would want it to be .420" approximately) and I had a friend turn down a .458 pilot. I gave him a .458" pilot and a 404 case and asked him to make it fit. He said it was quite simple to do.

Back when I first started loading .416 and 404, proper pilots were hard to find.
I would take the pilots for 44mag, chuck them into a drill press and spin them against a knife-sharpening stone, held in hand against the side of the pilot.
Check with calipers as you go, and stop when it has a good, snug slide fit into your desired case mouth.
Now I have ready-made pilots galore, but the old "hand-made" ones work just as well.

I also have a Forster, but you can polish down a 44mag pilot.

Thanks guys! I think I will just try and turn down one of the Lymans. That way a least I will know the shank is the right size.

Many Thanks
