90lxwinchester 375H&H magazine spring
I just bought a Win. Classic stainless in 375H&H and the mag holds 3 rounds. When I opened the floorplate I noticed the follower spring had an upward sharp bend in it that wouldn't allow it to collaspe completely. If it did, the mag would hold 4 rounds.Has anyone else noticed this and could I replace it with a Mauser spring. Thanks.

ramrod340Yes I have seen the foot. I don't know if changing it would allow 4 to fit or not. On a 7STW I built with a blind box I replace the factory spring with a new aftermarket 98 spring and built it so it would hold 5 down. If you have a spring try it ans see what happens.
As usual just my $.02

It will on mine but it is a very early version of the rifle you speak of.
While it did allow me to out three down it will not allow enough slop to single load a fifth. So your kind of in the same boat as before.

lobogaI tried the Wisner spring and it made no difference in mine.

JBDI had this experience with a .300 H&H push feed Model 70 some years ago and put a follower spring from a mauser in it and got four rounds in the magazine. Don't know if it always works but I can gaurentee it worked once with one rifle.

walexI ordered a spare for a 375 SS Model 70 Classic, and got spring with the up-bend as you described, and only got 2 down in the magazine box. It held 3 with the spring it came with. Got on the phone with someone at Brownell in the parts dept, and he figured out that the standard spring was what my original was. the one with the up bend was the Magnum. He sent me the standard spring, (#910-642-093) and it was the same as the original spring that came with the new rifle. There was no way to make the magmun spring (#910-642-097) work and get more than 2 down. Ruined the spring trying. The standard spring is almost 4 bucks cheaper too. W

cducatMine with an old type spring and FOLLOWER from Wisners takes four down flawlessly.

FjoldI just ordered another M70 magazine follower from Winchester and I'm going to do a little "Bubbadizing" on it when it gets here.
My stock follower with a Wisner spring gets 4 down but the bolt drags on the top cartridge very badly.

90lxI finally got the Mauser mag follower spring I ordered a week and a half ago.I installed the spring and it looks and fits better than the Winchester one.The best part is that it works just like I hoped it would. Now I can put 4 down in the mag and pressing down with my thumb on the rounds the bolt slides by easily to chamber the 5th round. Like JBD said, I don't know if it works in all these guns but it worked perfectly in mine!

GaryVAJust an update.
I had a chance to play around w/ a Mauser spring and follower in my M70 416Rem Safari. The Mauser spring indeed gives you a bit more room but nothing would work w/ my factory Winchester follower because it stands too tall. Even w/out a spring I could not put 4 rounds into the magazine w/ the Winchester follower. Using the Mauser spring along w/ the Mauser follower almost works. I can almost get the 4th round into the magazine but it's just too tight.
It was worth a try but I'll need to stick w/ 3 in the magazine for now.
Thanks anyway,
Gary
