600-700 grain .458 cast bullets
I'm working on a 640 grain and 725 grain WFNGC bullet in .459 for the .458 Winchester, .458 Lott and .460 Weatherby. I have designs in the works right now. Does anyone have any experience with 600 grain to 700 grain bullets in .458? I know 600 grain .458 jacketed bullets were made by Barnes and they were quite accurate.

I would appreciate anyone's comments and/or input.

I will also need a 458 Win Mag or Lott shooter to do some accuracy and penetration testing for me. Third party is more credible than manufacturer. If anyone would like to participate, please PM me. I will provide the bullets.

I'd love to try some in a 458 SOCOM.

I have a 460 Weatherby that I've shot 600 grain barnes through. I know they print about quite lower than 450 grain bullets do at 100 yards. I have a chrono that I I can blow the dust off from if you need any testing done with the 460.

Thanks,
Keith

I made a mold that drops a 675grain smooth sided .458 bullet for paper patching. In my 23" Lott, it went 1840mv over 65 grains of H4895. That was the only load I tried.

The mold isn't that well made but the bullets still shot 3-4moa with an apeture sight. Ditto Keithv35's observation that the heavier bullets shoot a lot lower.

Being over 1 1/2" long, they were also a bit of a wrestling match to reload.

I'm sure you'll sell them but IMHO, anything over about 550grains in a .458 is too much.

Unless your going to a Paper patch bullet ( which I found works really well in 600-700grs ( patch .459 and lube with rooster red), then you will find linotype metal bullets work really well. I found that anything over 2000fps with softer alloys caused excessive leading and bullet instability. Linotype cured that for me. I shoot as cast .459 and lubed with SPG.-Rob

I was told that 700 grain .459 bullets will not stabilize and accuracy would be horrible. But from what some of you have said, this not true.

Your info makes my project sound promising!

When I have some ready for testing, I would like to ask some of you for help. I'll provide the bullets, if you don't mind doing the shooting.
