graybirdWOW, not very fast but ...
Extremely accurate!
I've been working on some loads for my 375 H&H that will be going to RSA in June. The purpose for taking along the rifle is red duiker hunting using a solid. So, I picked up some Hornady DGS solids as they are all I could get my hands on at the local store.
Here's what I came up with Hornady DGS 300 gr using Ramshot Hunter @ 2427 fps.
Moving on to the Barnes TSX 300 gr using Ramshot Hunter @ 2352 fps. I got a zebra in mind for this one!
These loads are not the fastest being about 200 fps slower than published loads, but they are extremely accurate. Both are at max powder charges according to QuickLoad, so I'm thinking my barrel is probably slow, or I might need to look at a different powder to gain some additional velocity. Either way, should I not find a bit more velocity out of a different powder, I don't see why either of these two loads won't do.

impala#03Hi Graybird,
Should be plenty fast enough. I killed a very nice Kudu and a Cape Buffalo bull deader than tax reform using a 300 grain Nosler Partitiion @ 2450 in Zambia last trip. I think some of the information in the manuals and floting around on the internet are very optomistimic.

PeglegI wouldn't change a thing! Great shooting.

N E 450 No2I would use those loads without worry.
The 286gr bullets out of my 9,3x74R are "only" going @2220fps.
I have killed a lot of game with them including several zebras, and one cape buff with softs, and a giraffe and elephant with solids.

Bwana_500Well, if its any consolation, your PH will probably think that's too fast.
Most SA hunters seem to think ballistic performance reached perfection with the invention of cordite, and anything faster than 2200fps is a recipe for disaster!

pagosawingnutIsn't the .375 a joy to reload for? Nice shooting and the load will work just fine.
Bwana is correct. Everything I have ever taken will not work, the bullet is too light and the velocity is way too high. At least according to 3 different PH's. Only one of them admitted that he may have to rethink his philosophy on velocity/bullet weight. The Barnes 235 gr TSX is one hell of a killing machine on any size plains game, killed everything with one shot, up to and including Eland, but it was too light and moving too fast.
You'll be fine.

RustyI'd call that "MOB" Minute of Buffalo! Despite what some people say, it isn't about speed. It about accuracy!

MARK H. YOUNGgraybird,
Nice shooting and obviously a very accurate rifle. I think your loads are fine and no game animals will know your not pushing the bullets at 2500 fps.

graybirdYeah, I'm extremely happy with these loads. I might play around with a different powder, but I'd be perfectly satisfied taking these across the pond.

Black FlyIf I understand your reason for taking the solids, they are to be used on duikers? I expect even two hundred feet per second velocity loss will still give full penetration on them and, by golly, that is certainly the kind of accuracy you would want for those little guys. I've only been over once, but a 180 30 caliber at just 2500 was enough for the zebra I shot. Lots more experience on here than I have.
Looks like lightning in a brass bottle to me.

Work hard and be nice, you never have enough time or friends.

graybirdYep, you have it correctly, Black Fly. The 375 and solids are making the trip specifically for red duiker.
I would like to shoot my zebra with the TSX bullets. Strangely enough, I've had this gun for about 3 years now and have yet to shoot a critter with it. Taking it's first game in Africa will be special.

My 375H&H hand loads runs at 2350fps for both solids and softs. It has accounted for everything from baboon to elephant, I have always been more than satisfied. I can't testify that I have seen a difference between 2350fps and 2500fps. Your rifle and load is a shooter, have fun!
