Paul HI don't know the full history, but Saeed got the idea that he had to have the biggest, baddest round. I know he mentioned someone giving him some 20mm cases. He also mentioned that Walther was making a 1.008" barrel.
Other then that, I believe that the only thing in existance is a dummy round.
We've had fun theorizing what it would do, I'd suggested a 2500 gr X bullet at 2500 fps. Would be just the thing for those pesky RV's that clog our Alaskan roads in the summer.
Last I heard, when Saeed finally got component bullets for the 700 NE, and they started adding more powder to the case, the motivation to bring the 1008 to fruition was somewhat diminished.

hillbillybearPaul,
This round gives a whole new meaning to Big Bore. I suggest we construct one immediately and fiels test on Usama Bin Laden's Ass.

If you get the chance to target shoot on those RV and don't get them all send me the gun because they must all come straight to my town Yuma Az and get right under our skin for about 4-5 months. They are impossible to miss even fleeing at top speed is only about walking speed until someone is advertising a free lunch. RNS

Paul HRNS,
I was wondering where those darn things migrate too ;-)
No offense to the canucks, but the most unnerving vehicle I got stuck behind this summer was a van with Canadian plates. Now, going 55 isn't that bad, but when its 55 kph, in a 55 mph zone, it kinda erks you.

LongDistanceOperatorWhy is Walther making a 1.008" barrel? What is the cartridge that "normally" goes with that bore?
Saeed- will this project go beyond the drawing board?

SaeedGentlemen,
We are trying to get suitable actions and barrels for all sorts of crazy calibers Walter has worked out.
Right now he is too busy trying to find out what tricks we have in store for him in Africa.
We received some 12 caliber barrels the other day, and poor old Walter was stumped!
We told him they were blank barrels, and the hole was only to guide the drill.
He named these the "Dot" calibers!
We have also made a dummy of a cartridge which we hope to develop in the future.
The case is 9 1/4" long, and the diemeter of the bullet is 1.741".
Loaded round on the left is a 700 NE shown for size.

OldsargeThis is starting to look like that hysterically funny thread on the old HuntAmerica site that discussed the inability of the .300 Wby to kill elk. Now that was a GOOD one.

GrandpasezThat bore size is close to the 4 bore a
few of us on here are working on. Ours is made from 20mm brass and is .998 bore. We have
company working toward making barrels.
Here is pic of cases and 2000 gr bullets
with 20 mm we make it from.Far right is 06 for comparison.Ed

NEJackThere was a thread on "what would you carry to Jurassic Park".
I think that the Buffualo Thumper is now on my list!
One question, just what do you mount the gun to?

Try to look unimportant. Your enemy might be low on ammo.

I found an old shooting mag the other day that had an article about a 4 bore in it made or commisioned by a Australian firm called Century arms, it was a break action single shot that sold for approx $50,000 Aus about ten years ago. The loaded rounds were made by Kynoch, awsome looking gun.

gixxerIf I had the money I would buy it. Imagine the look on the face of the range officer when you ask if you can shoot, since their limit is everything under 50BMG. Speaking of shooting it, that reminds me of vid footage I saw of guys shooting 8 bores and such. One guy lost the rifle completely and almost got knocked on his tail. That was shooting standing BTW. kinda makes you think when they describe the recoil as "not too bad, just have to take 2 steps back to recover". YEAH RIGHT.
