Cabelas Wheeling just posted on Guns International a Ruger RSM Lott that had an extended magazine box built for it. This gun was built for my insurance agent and I was able to see it being developed. It took a lot of tweaking to get it reliable but it is my understanding it feeds.

Saw that. Wonder why he thought he needed that many rounds in a 458 Lott? Looks like a wood assault rifle.

It was built for his first elephant hunt. He has graduated to double rifles but at the time he wanted firepower. I think the experiment cost him the better part of $500. I went to Cabelas web site and see that a cracked and repaired wrist is mentioned. No surprise since he shot hundreds of rounds thru the gun before the hunt.

RSM's are known to be stock splitters. Especially if you shoot them in a weighted sled.

Nope. I don't like it.

I was kindof expecting a sowbelly stock. I don't mind magazines, don't get me wrong. I've got a .416 built by Wisemann that has detachable magazines that carry 4 down, can then put one up. They don't extend past the lower line of the stock, however. You can then carry softs/solids in different magazines. Pretty neat.

I don't think it looks that bad. I like the extra shots. You can always go back to a floor plate if you want too.

I notice it says it has a repaired crack on the left side of the grip area. I do not see it in the pictures. Does anyone else see it. Kind of wondered why it was going for 1300.00. Repaired crack in the grip area can't be too good.

Extended box is right. Coulda maybe softened those edges a bit for aesthetics. No doubt is is functional but damn. It just kills the lines of the rifle.

I talked with Alan at Cabelas, he said the crack had been properly fixed and the gun is structurally sound. Hmmmm.

Stock was cracked with a backwards "C"-type split from the bottom up but not meeting up to the top rear of action. If it breaks bad you'd have a good chance it'd rip right past your fingertips into your lower right eye orbit or cheek. Nope, Cabelas had no info as to whether or not the stock had been fired since the repair. The owner is quite a regular customer and the local gunsmith known to all, too. A new Ruger M77 stock was quoted $1100+ w/ only a short-term replacement guarantee should the new one break. When asked if the magnum action stocks tend to break, Ruger service recently said "well... they do come in." Circassian walnut is what you'll get; no other optioned Ruger replacements for this action. Those extra rds sure might cost ya.

You would think that Ruger would make the stock stronger. They know the recoil of the 458 lott.
