Need gunsmith recommendation
Hello,

I am planning to build a .585 Nyati. I need a gunsmith with experience in order to correctly assemble the rifle parts. Any recommendations?

Thanks

Why not talk to John Ricks from this forum as most experienced shooters here seem to be pleased with his work.

This is a big caliber and I would think that not many people would have much experience with it.

Also, Frank Wells at Cutrifle would be another good source for a big bore rifle.

Good luck!

I'd use John Ricks...He has done excellent work for me and I am not easy to please, when a rifle might mean life or death to a client, PH. of self..

Dennis Olson has a lot of experience building 585 Nyati's. I missplaced his phone number but you can find it in Rifle Magazine.

Don't use Dennis Olson! He's supposed to be doing some work for me right now and I don't need competition for his time! Kidding of course... Good luck.

Getting involved with the 585 Nyati is far more involved than just selecting a good gunsmith. You have to do some research and deceide exactly on what you want. There are quite a few versions of the 585 Nyati around and not all will work without big problems.
I suggest you talk to AHR. they have a 585 AHR turnkey rifle based on the CZ550 that is very well designed and for the money your best bet. ED plummer is also real knowledgeable and will help you make the right decisions. When you start to add up the costs of a action, sights, barrel, stock, second recoil lug, mercury recoil reducers, tricky gunsmithing, retinal re-attachment surgery etc, you will realize what a bargain the AHR rifle is.-Rob

Thank you for the information regarding the .585 Nyati. I have changed my mind regarding the project. I think a .500A2 would be a better choice.

I talked to John about doint a 585, and he was, how shall I say, not real excited about building one, due to some of the inherent comprimises in the design. If you are looking for a 500 Jeffrey on down, I can wholeheartedly recomend his work.
