Yep. A new .408 barrel is incoming.
Another "special" one, not an inventory barrel. Wink
Most excellent service, most excellent barrels, most excellent price.
If McGowen makes the spec you want, they cannot be beat.
I own more McGowen barrels than any other make, and I have never been disappointed.
They even make a stainless, .408/.400, 1:13" with a 1.2" diameter shank.
A good go for a sporting weight .408 Chey-Tac "400 Goodkill" (formerly known as "400 Underkill"), or maybe a "400 Bateleur," on a CZ 550 Magnum.
I might be able to carry either one all by myself. tu2
I guess I better use the fat Lilja barrel on the MRC PH.

I've only got one McGowen barrel, the one on my 500 Jeffery and it's excellent. Shoots one hole groups at 50 yards, sub one inch groups at 100 when I do my part.

Well, my 500 Acc Rel Nyati is McGowen. I still need to test it, and may need to try two stocks. The Ruger Hogue is quite flexible. If it shoots tight groups with the heavy loads, fine. If not, I will change stocks for a boyd laminate. That one will probably shoot, and then I will be able to see just what the McGown barrel can do in .500 AccRel Nyati with a 12" twist.

And it is a 1:10" twist, .510/.500 bit of perfection.
McGowen sure knows how to make a sporting 50-cal barrel, and has enough slower twists to satisfy even the Luddites. tu2

I ordered a 6.5 barrel from McGowens in February, they told me they were 180 days out and now mid July (nearly) and seems they are holding true to their word.
This will be my first McGowen barrel.
I ordered a Shilen at the same time for my 400 Whelen and I already have it up and running.
Pac Nor is my favorite barrel maker if they make what I need.

A little off topic. I ordered a Benchmark 22 rimfire custom on June 14th and they shipped yesterday. Not quite 4 weeks and they quoted 8 weeks and at a good price too.

Funny how that works.
I had a Pac-Nor take 5 or 6 months once because they scrapped it on the final QC check and had to start over.
Pac-Nor does have the slickest on-line ordering system: No human contact required.
I recently had Shilen deliver in about 18 days, a stainless #4 Sporter for 400 Whelen, even though they told someone once that they did not make that caliber in smaller than #5 ...
Well, they do now!
