Von Gruff404 Jeffery twist rates.
Thought to open another thread so the 450gn bullet discussion was not hijacked.
I have documents on the early 404J barrel twists from the various makers and it seems they ran from 16 - 16.530in
Krupp 16.000
Mauser origional 16.530
Vickers Armstrong 16.530
Lothar Walther 16.530
Vector 16.530
When I built mine I used an Au MAB barrel with a 14in twist but I see in the post by Rip that he has a 10 in twist in this post on this thread

These are moderate-pressure, extremely accurate loads, velocities for a 24" barrel of 1:10" twist by McGowen:
So what is everyone running in the 404's they are getting built now. I would like to know what loading or bullet stabilisation information was used to determine the choice of twist, os did you simply go with the barrel makers standard.

jjsMine has a Krieger 1:14 Twist, 24" barrel. I think their standard twist is 1:16 for the 404 Jeffery but after speaking with Ralf Martini we settled on 1:14 twist. Ralf spec. out the barrel with Krieger.
Accuracy has been exceptional using North Fork 380 grain Softs and Cup Points. Just got back from Tananzia...taking two very large Cape Buffalo. Penetration was staight line and only recovered one bullet. I am chronographing approximately 2380 fps with the 380 grain North Forks.
