New way to bag a bowling ball ....

Frank BellerNew way to bag a bowling ball ....
Today I watched a member of this BB "bag" a bowling ball with his .470 NE. At 20 yards, a charging bowling ball was not only stopped dead in it's tracks, it was literally disintegrated by one mighty hit from a Searcy .470 NE. The most spectacular sight I've ever seen with a one shot hit on a target. The ball never knew what hit it !!!

nextjoeBut the real question is, what happened to the bullet? Percentage of weight retained? Mushroom shape? What did the wound channel look like? Did the bullet stop under the hide on the far side? Do bowling balls *have* hide?
Best,
Joe

<mikeh416Rigby>I don't kill bowling balls any more-they're too damn tough on the skinning knife.

mstarlingAye, and they're tough any way you cook 'em!

HandloaderI killed a bowling ball once but I could not get enough mustard on it to eat the dang thang. Man are they tough. Besides when I cooked it it stunk up the mrs's kitchen something terrible.

jeffeossoI let shooting bowling balls go, as it seems trophy measurment is purely retained weight...
and the 500 jeffe scattered it like a pellet rifle in a suger cube

I bet the owner of the bowling alley was pissed!

mstarlingJeffe is absolutely correct ... 470 NE does exactly the same thing

Will try to post a pic of the chunk with the entry hole.
Actually , Tom Kessel made me do it!

(You know ... as in "the Devil Made Me Do it.") He's the one that tempted me with those first shots from a 9.3 x 74R Chapuis double.
Seriously ... Thank you Tom, for introducing me to a new dimension in the shooting sports!

Tom KesselShoot double rifles--it's a blast!

diesel_dudeShooting jugs full of water can be very dangerous, especially if they are wounded!

Usually if I hit them just right the 577 turns them inside out! Going to go out tommorow and blow a few of them up!

45LCshooterThis sound magnificent!!!
So, how do you get the bowling ball to charge you? Do you taunt it... or do you or just upset it from a position on an incline. Are there set methods for bowling ball shooting?
Seriously, I have never heard of shooting bowling balls (just the petite cousin of the species, the bowling pin) and it seems a fun way to test oneself on the "charging maneater" type shot. You know, the situation that gets debated so much on certain forums.
mstarling,
I can't wait to see the pics.

Tom KesselI have a cape buffalo head made from mining belt rubber[actual size]and a cable hooked between two trees on a incline ,an o-bolt thru the center of chest to hook gallons jugs of water to.I've shot 2 cape buffalo and this method will work until I get back to Africa!
ps--use liquid detergent jugs with water and red food coloring or cool aid for a red bubbling lung shot---if you miss--shoot again!!!

Rick RObviously I missed something the other day
Bet it was fun

I think you could question it's "manliness" (One ball, only "half" a man) Or, you could make a comment about its lack of hair (bald as a bowling ball). Or, suggest that it hangs around gutters a lot, or that it only does its best work when it's "on strike".
The water jugs are great fun. I keep all my juice jugs, etc., just for that. My shooting time is suffering, though. I must have 30 jugs waiting in the garage, for their chance.
Best blow-up of a water jug I ever got was from my 8mm Rem. Mag. with 220 gr bullets. At 50 yards, it looked like going fishing with a stick of dynamite tossed into a lake. ![[Big Grin]](images/icons/grin.gif)

Ted S.Here's something from the peanut gallery on shooting bowling balls.
If the ball is rolling towards you and the bullet enters dead center and the ball turn exactly 180 deg. does the bullet exit comeing back at you???? Ha Ha Ha

Rick KoehlerTom, I'm going to have to try that dishsoap/food coloring combo. Sounds like fun. Thanks for the idea!

HenryC470Our club gave away a bowling ball as a prize at a bowling pin match. The ball had no holes, but the sponsor who donated it said he would drill it to the winner's specifications.
The guy who won it just grinned and said "it'll have holes in it".
