viperidaeThumbhole stocks on .375 and up, good / bad?
Art Alphin hated them...any input? Will they dislocate one's thumb? Are they good / bad; up to a certain recoil level? Okay on a .416?
I don't like the way they look so I don't have any experience with them.

jaegerfrankVery clearly too slow too work the bolt on DGR rifles. Ugly but ok for precision shooting in smaller calibres.

458WinThey are comfortable, help manage recoil and can be quick pointing but are bulky and on manually operated bolt rifles hamper quick repeat shots.
I have one on a .22 Hornet and a .22LR. I can't imagine one on my .375....

Dead EyeI find it harder to find and use the safety with a thumb hole stock, and so don't hunt with one at all.

Dan416awkward to carry in the field, uncomfortable to carry with a sling, great off the bench or bipod, difficult to get to the safety and bolt

Die Ou JagterWell let me say this my 338 has a thumbhole stock over 40 head of African game to it's credit, 416 Taylor thumbhole stock, Elephant and Hippo to its credit, 375 H & H Cape Bufflao to its credit. I am currently having a 400/395 built in Ruger 1 and yes a thumbhole stock. They are not awkard to carry, they give excellent purchase on the rifle. Now mine are all composite stocks no wooden ones. They reduce the felt recoil. As to speed of repeat shots I see no difference.
