Any thoughts on this rifle other than replacing the recoil pad due to a 14.5" pull? Does 10.5 lbs on a Cz 404 suggest a mercury recoil reducer? Seems a bit heavy. Thanks!

Kynoch, I saw that as well. If the LOP is 14.5" with that Pad-over-Pad arrangement on it now, it was probably cut down at one time, which would make it very difficult to re-sell. But if 13 1/2" LOP works for you on a rifle in that caliber (after taking the 2nd pad off), you could probably play up the issue and get it down lower. Nice looking rifle, anyway.

I originally thought the stock had been cut but am now not sure based on the length of wood between the pad and the cheekpiece when compared between this rifle and other pictures of the same model.

Factory length of pull is 13.75" not sure how much "pad" is currently on the rifle, but I bet one could lose .75" of pad (its 14.5" now) and get it close to factory spec.

Thanks

You may be right on that. Can't beat the 404J...bullet weight and adequate power without the recoil. That's why the 450/400 NE is becoming so popular now in double rifles.

Nice looking rifle, great caliber, looks like one could toss that spacer, buy a recoil pad to your own requirements and have a great buy. The 404 is my current favorite.
