Sling on Double rifle?
Hi all. Should there be a sling or sling swivel studs on a double rifle?
I've read that the gun should be in your hands incase you need it.
Will a sling attached to the barrels effect the regulation much?
Will a sling have a tendancy to get caught on brush and should then be left off?

I've also seen pics of some with sling attached.

I don't know about whether it should or shouldn't but Holland and Holland has sling hardware on their $140,000 rifle on their website for the NY gunroom.

I personally wouldn't want any on a double.

[Big Grin] I've owned a lot of double rifles, and handeled probably a thousand more, that I didn't own, and I don't believe I've ever seen a double rifle without provision for a "CARRY STRAP" ! The carry strap is what is used on a double rifle, not a sling! A sling is a shooting aid, a carry strap is something you hang a rifle on your shoulder to free your hands, and to avoid fatigue. One does not use the carry strap to wrap up in for shooting!

I always have a strap with me when hunting with my doubles, but I remove it when a stalk starts, and only use it to carry my heavy rifles!

Mac,

You have vastly more experience with doubles than I do, but of my 5 present doubles there is one that does not have provision for a carry strap. It is a Holland Dominion Grade in 375x2.5" Flanged Nitro Express.

Am I the only one that gets chills down his spine when I look at a Rifle like that?

N E 450 No2
My 450/400 has sling swivels, my 450 No2 does not.

Sounds like I'll go with carry strap swivels on my 470 project. I still need to decide on sights. I'm thinking about a ghost ring with a warthog ivory bead up front.

A double should have a carry strap, unless you have a gun bearer for every one of your rifles....
