Rate of twist for 375 H&H
I just realized I never specified rate of twist for my Krieger 375 H&H barrel that will be installed on my Hein rifle.
Krieger offers 1-12, 1-14, and 1-18. I will be using bullets from 250 to 300 grains.
Opinions are always appreciated.

I think the standard for the H&H is 1-12. The 1-18 sure wouldn't work with 300's and they are the workhorse for a .375.

Snowwolfe,

I believe the Brits. originally used a 1 in 14 twist for the .375 H&H.

However, the standard here in the US seems to be 1 in 12 and that is what I ordered for my barrel... Haven't received it yet though.

Dave

Hein also recommended 1-12. Thanks folks. This made my choice easy.

Snowwolfe, you have to ask yourself what am i gonna use this for?. If i intend to hunt N.A game mainly with 270 grns. then a 1 in 10 or 12 is fine. If i want to get the maximum penetration by using 300's and 350 grainers then a 1 in 14 is the absolute minimum. (350's will increase the field effectiveness to almost .416 levels). I have used them for years as some other A.R. people who have had enogh field experience to realize what and extra 50 grains does in that calibre. Hope this helps you out. Charlie

Shouldn't you use a quicker twist for heavier(longer) bullets?

I'll never go above 300 grains. If I need more bullet weight thats time to break out the Lott.
