SoftleadHornady 500 .458 modifyed
Hi!
I have read in several places that the Hornady 500 gr RN is somewhat soft when subjected to heavy game.
Therefore I was not suprised after opening a fresh box of bullets to find that the bullets have changed a bit.
As far as I can see, the new bullets have less lead exposed at the tip, and possibly also has a harder lead alloy in the core. As far as I can measure, the "hole in the jacket" where the jacket ends, is 5 mm in the new bullet and aprox 5,7 mm in the old ones.
When I take one old and one new bullet and put them nose to nose and press them together, it seems that the older bullet has softer lead than the new one.
That was a lot of introduction, so here is the question; Does any one know any hard facts about any changes made to the Hornady 500 gr soft nose .458 bullet?

GeorgeSNo hard facts, but I wager they toughened them up for use in the .458 Lott ammo they now offer.
Call Hornady and ask them.
