375 project
bought a push feed 375H&H a couple years ago, deside to cut the barrel to 18.5",installed a hogue stock on it installed a 1 1/2 power fixed weaver. weighs 10.5 lbs very nice to shoot. Should be just the ticket for conversation during clubs running deer target shoots. My question how much do you think I lost in velocity cutting 5"1/2 off the barrel? Has anone used a faster burning powder to gain any back?
It handles like a dream .

I hear numbers thrown around a lot like 20 fps per inch, but I've never tested it. If those figures are correct you lost 110 fps, no big deal really.
I would say shoot it and enjoy it, find a powder that it is really accurate with and who gives a hoot about the fps.

Somebody was supposed to be doing a test a couple years ago whacking an inch at time off 375 H&H and Ruger barrels to see actual velocity loss. Wonder what ever happened to "that guy" and his test? popcorn

Why don't you just go out and buy a chrony then there is no guessing for price of a couple boxs of 375 you can have one.

That guy was Jeffeoso here on A.R. I'll look for it. The velocity that you have lost depends a bit on the smoothness of your barrel.

FISH!!

Heed the words of Winston Smith in Orwell's 1984:

"Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right."
