Ol BullBig Bore Shoot in Montana...Part Two...Weather Update
Well gents, September 6th i'm doin it again. Another big bore shoot. Same range as last time, The High Ore range 1 1/2 miles south of Boulder Mt. 22 rounds shot in 5 stages. All stages will be timed this time. Also as a side match we'll be doin a two man team event. Targets will be buffalo. Each shooter will shoot two rounds at each buff. There must be a kill shot on each buff for the team to advance. So bring plenty of ammo. And practice, practice boys

Classes will be the same as last time. Entry fee is $15 Registration starts at 8:30 and shootin at 10:00 sharp. Sorry but it doesn't look like i'll have a food vendor so bring lunch and drinks.
Hope to see some of you there again!

Also, i'll have 4 moving targets this time
And an Elephant head

Doug TurnbullI will not be able to make it as I will be with Phil SHoemaker that week with the 475 Turnbull and a date with a moose. But I do have a rifle and ammo that I could send out to a dealer there and one of you all could get it to shoot and play with. Just let me know who and where to send it to.
I tend to use more than enough gun.

Dan416Hey Ol Bull, I was not at your last match and need to ask how you organize classes. Bore dia., bullet weight, energy, or how purty the shooter is.
Also, is your 450 on a full lenth Jeffry case or is it shortened? I remember the rifle was a military mauser action and have seen some H&H length chamberings on 98's but Jerry Kuhnhausen's (sp) shop manual advises against it. Yours seems to work really well. Dan
14 August 2008, 11:13
Ol BullDan, all classes are broke down by caliber and then action, bolt, double or single shot. We're all ugly so won't work!

My 450 G&A is on a short 404J case, 2.5" and as you seen it feeds like a champ. Kuhnhausen is right about a 460 G&A, full length 404J case,on a standard action, it won't work. It needs a magnum action. See ya soon.

Ol BullClasses are:
.338 - .358
.366 - .375
.395 - .423
.458 - .510
.550 - .600

.338 is a big bore? Cool That I have! Might even bring the 45/70 even if it is just a handy rifle.
Well better get home to the reloading bench.
MM
19 August 2008, 10:53
Ol BullMM, no the .338 is NOT a big bore!

But since it is a popular caliber for african plains game i include it. And to draw more shooters.

And bring that 45/70 too buddy..i have a class for that to!

Doug TurnbullI sent out a 475 Turnbull and 100 rnds of ammo to AHR for you all to shoot the heck out of in Montana next weekend.
Have fun with it.
Note: They they are loaded with Speer 400 grain bullets and the OAL length is a bit short. I like them to be 2.700" or longer. In a 71 they can cause cartridge flip, this guns seems to work them well but be advised.
