Another 460 WBY Question
Just got a 460 Mark V, it has Weatherby Custon on the floorplate. The only differences I can see from other WBYs that I've owned are the bolt is jewelled and the bolt handle is checkered. Just wondering if all 460s are like this or not.

DGR ShooterI've got a Japanese made Lazermark .460 that's like that. It's my understanding,(and I could be wrong

) that the stocks on .460's are reinforced through the grip to keep the them from splitting. Perhaps that, along with the jeweled bolt and follower, is enough to earn the "Weatherby Custom" designation.

MacifejThere is a little more to it than that.
Work the action on an Accumark and compare it to a .460...a lot smoother. The finish is nicer as well.
All 460s carry the "custom" floorplate as they are all assembled and "cleaned up" by the custom shop. The jewelling and checkering are custom work however.
Ken....
Cool, thanks Ken. The follower is also jewelled. It has a Pendlton brake. I've never seen one of these in action, are they as loud as modern ones?

DGR ShooterI'm sure there will be those who disagree, but I've never found the Pendleton brake to be particuarly obnoxious. By comparison, I had the opportunity to shoot a newer .460 with the accubrake not too long ago, and while it was difficult to say exactly how loud it was because I had doubled up on hearing protection, the blow-back from the accubrake was horrindus. Felt like it would've blown the hat right off my head if my ear muffs hadn't been holding it down. I find that much more disruptive to accurate shooting than recoil itself.
