Leupold VX-1 1-4X on 458?
This would be on a No 1, not a DG rifle.

Any reports on the durability of these scopes? I have always used the Vari-X III and found them to be good, but wonder if the $179 VX-1 is up to the pounding??

I have heard that the older VX-II (which is the current VX-I) the cam mechanism used a soft aluminium guid pin that could shear leaving you stuck at the power you last had it on. I would reccomend calling Leupold's customer service, they are very happy to explain their products and the suitability.

I used a VX-1 1-4 on a 375 Weatherby and a 416 Remington for years with no trouble; it's going on my 505 Gibbs in a couple of weeks for load develpoment. I guess I'll have something more to say after that.

I've had three on the way....until I get the little email saying they are on backorder!

I've lost two on ebay, as well as one here on the classifieds (a VX-II).

I'll get something, eventually.
