510 Wells starting loads

I never got around to working with different powders with the 510 Wells--the rifle was just so big I knew I was not going to tote it around anywhere so I lost interest early on. RL 15 just seems to be a good all around powder for it however.

With 535s start around 100 gr RL 15 and that should come close to 2100 fps, with the 570s try around a 102 grs or so to get going with it. These are very safe, and probably in the neighborhood of the velocity you want.

For some terminals the last time Sam was down I put a 110 grs RL 15 in with a 570 Solid and it gave 2355 fps.

Of course that's all with Fed 215s.

I think the 510 Wells would be good with a API bullet from a 50 BMG. Now that would be fun.

9.25lbs. That why I need to start low and work up. I got 2427 with 110gr RL15 and the 535. It blew the chrony off the table so might not be bang on.

Check some of the popular manuals but last time I loaded for a 460 in a MKV, I think I was using 102 grains of RL19 behind a 500 GR bronze solid. Never chrono'd em though. I have some .510" x 535 Grain FN's if you'd like to try them.

There's lots of 500A2 data, start with that, they're almost identical.

All I was finding was full power loads and lots for 600 gr. I will have some 625gr local made to try soon. Trying to find low power not cast bullet loads is tough. I will try 95-100 gr Rl15 and see how that works.

I've done lots of 500A2 loading and shooting.

Starting loads for the .510 wells should be near identical to starting loads for the 500A2.

Heavy bullets/slow powders:
For the 570 to 750-grain bullets, start with 95 to 100 grains of any of the 4350 powders.

Medium weight bullets/medium burn powders:
For the lighter bullets, 535 to 570 grains, you are good with the 95 to 100 grains of RL-15 OR Hodgdon Varget Extreme for starting loads.

Light bullets/fast powders:
If you should go as low as 450-grain bullets,
95 to 100 grains of either Hodgdon Benchmark or IMR3031 should be the cat's meow for starters.

I like to use Dacron filler with the light, short bullets and the fast powders, or with any load that has air space and obvious powder shake/rattle in the loaded round.

Work up one grain at a time, say from 95 to 105 grains with any of the three classes of loads above. Above that you are on your own.

Ruger lists the bare weight at 9.5 lbs. That's about a lb lighter than my MKV without sights. We gotta get you to the gym Boss!!
