.358PCAKReduced loads in the .416 Taylor
My goal is not to say you should try this, just to shear one of my fun experiences. If you do as I did, you do it on your own responsibility.
Some years ago I had fun loading my .358 Norma Mag with 158 grs bullets and small amounts N110 powder. The blast was modest and the recoil not noticeable. Last winter I picked up the idea again, but now for the Taylor. I still use the N110 and standard large rifle primers. The bullet was the 350 grs Speer MT( I guess cast bullets would be perfect for this). Starting at 23 grs working it up to 27 grs - grs by grs. Velocity between 365 m/sek(almost subsonic) and 420 m/sek. I found the 25 grs charge good enough and have used that since. Velocity at 380 m/sek. At 100 m the bullet travels subsonic. After some testing, I’ve no problem achieving 3 shot groups within 2” at 100 m. The blast is almost like a 222 with lower frequency and the recoil like a 308 Win. Everything just for fun
Anyone else done this?
Pete

500grainsI have heard of using 10 grains of Unique behind a 158 grain cast bullet in a 35 whelen for 400 fps.

<magnum_no>PAC :I have done the same with mine 416T. I have also tried lead-bullets, and loaded with a minimum load of N150 it gives the same p.o.i as my standard hunting load with Horn 400grs RN. Recoil is verry nice, and the accuracy is OK.
If you vant to try the lead bullets, just call me (or send a mail).

.358PCAKHi Magne
Nice to talk to you again! Yepp, I knew you had some experience with reduced loads, but I didnt knew you had tried casts. Ill get untouched so we can get together and have some fun.
