Big Bore Semi Auto

OblivionBig Bore Semi Auto
After watching Jumanji, and looking at this site, I've thought about, and tinkered with the idea of a big bore semi auto rifle. It would have a REALLY powerful action. Dual or Triple Looking lugs, with a closed operating rod that syphons off a shitload of gas. The barrel would be approx. 22-28" depending on caliber.
These are the calibers I have in mind:
.300-.460Wby Mag
.300-.458Win Mag
.50 BMG, overcharged
.416- .510 Rigby
.577 Tyrannasaur
.577-.700 NE
20MM Hispano
1.008 Vincent Buffalo Thumper
Ah what the hell, 1.5" Elephant Buster!

T.CarrOblivion,
Might be a fun toy, but you can't take it out of the US to test it on anything.

Terry

cgdavidMccan Inductries is converting M1 Garands to some of the standard-length magnums. They are producing 338 winmags and were working on 458 wm. They completely rebuild the rifle - new stock, modified gas system etc. Here is a link to their webpage:

OblivionThanks guys, I didn't know it's been experimented with, and it's too bad I can't go to say, the Savannah to test a .700 Nitro Express Cannon. You gotta admit, though, the pictures would look funny.

<yorick>McCann is almost done building me a 338WM on a CMP Garand I sent him.
At least I hope he is, he's been working on it since May of 2001

GrandpasezEasiest powerful big bore to build on an autoloader is 458Win on a BAR.I have seen one
that my gunsmith neighbor Bob Snapp did for a customer.Worked fine.Ed.
And what about a good one all around caliber 9.3x64 ?I know you don't like russian guins and Russians at all, but this one is good I belive . . .

folding butt

plastic butt

What I heard accuracy is enhanced to SVD/SVDS . . .
My #1 for survival rifle is folding butt version, two barrel lengths are aviable . . .

OblivionThat's interesting. An SVD in 9.3X64... Ever handle such a rifle? If so, how is it?
Personally, I do like Russian firearms.
I'd like to design a semi auto around the M-1 type of action, chambered in above said calibers (except of course, 1.5) with a 5 round detachable box magazine. That would be kind of neat. I wonder about the finer points of ballistics, as these rounds are used to about the same range, and could probably use similar sights, though I'd be more secure developing unique sights.

If you want to talk guns, lets talk guns.
If you want to prove how stupid you are just keep posting like you are.Let me also suggest that Saddom also needs more human shields and we can take up a collection for your air fare.

Mike SmithHunterJim, I shot the Beowolf this year. Very interesting! Surprisingly not bad at all. At least from my end.

I was surprised at how well it shot and Im certainly not the best marksman around. I figure if I can shoot well with it anyone can.
Ps If any of you guys go to
Knob Creek they will probably have a couple there.
