500grainsWhat caliber Searcy did the Judge order?
Did 470 win, or did he opt for 450-400?

JudgeGUpon Ray Atkinson's advice, a .375 RUM in one barrel and .45/70 in the other.

Actually, although I haven't decided for sure, I am leaning towards a .450 N.E. Why? I don't know except I like the history of the cartridge. But I may go with a .450/400... or a .470. Butch will be patient until I finish with the money, I'm sure. Actually, it will be a .500/.416.. (I think)?
I am taking my .475 N.E. Cogswell and Harrison on a elephant/buffalo hunt in late May. I'll probably be selling it when I return to pay off my trip. It's as sturdy as an M1 tank. and 100 rounds of mixed solids and softs will go with it along with some brass and dies. I'll give details and a price upon my return (assuming the animals don't get me).

If recoil is a consideration, I would go with the 450/400.
It is by far and away the most comfortable to shoot. Also the rifle can weigh a little less. My 450/400 3 1/4" weighs 9 1/4 lbs, and is a joy to carry.
Good luck in Africa.

SevensGo with the 450. That would be my choice if I got one. The 470 is like the 30-06 of the big bores, everyone chambers for it and federal loads ammo for it. You seem like the 450 kind of guy. If you really can't decide, why not have a 450 on one side and the 470 on the other.
