smallfrySheep rifles and the 416.
Damn it... I thought I had a sheep rifle in 378 wby!! Never in my life have 416s been dancing in my head. What gives with the 416 rigby... can I realy hit 2500-2600/400? I know it will take a large action, but so does my 378 and its fairly light. How much can a guy trim a 416 down? I am going to hate you all for this.

tiggertateJust rebarrel it to 416 Wby with no other change. If you shoot A 378 Wby you should be able to handle the 416.

smallfryNo the 378 wby would stay, I use it too much. I was more interested in knowing how the 416 rigby is for reloading and hunting experances.

tiggertateNever did either so I can't say. I have a 416 Remington though and find it very manageable in a 9 lb package. Easy to load for too.

D HunterI have loaded it up a bit. With 300 gr Barnes X bullets you can get to 3k. That ought to be enough for cross canyon sheep shooting. You can load up to 2550 with 400's with no problem. Maybe more. I loaded mine back down a bit to be a little less of a jolt on my shoulder. 2490 with the 400's and 2600 with NF 325 gr bullets are my using loads for my Rigby.

BradA "sheep rifle" is what you guard your sheep with from roving gangs of teenaged boys outa Wyoming... crf is preferable.

For the love of "God" Man!! what kind of sheep are you shooting at that requires a 378 Weatherby Mag .
If your crazy ..( I think you are ) then just buy a CZ in 375 H&H and have it converted to 550 Mag ... Or just buy a 416 Rigby in a CZ there cheap and you can go out and shoot all the prehistoric sheep you want...
Other then that just buy a 340 weatherby ..Which
i think is still to big and shoot the sheep with that ..
More Elk have been killed with a .22 then most anything else ... when folks go out and kill 5 and 6 and 7 and more Elk a year with a .22 after 30 years that adds up .. now i know that there are no sheep as big as Elk so why ? on Earth would you hunt them with a 378 Weatherby mag ..Or 416 Rigby.. hell guy i dont use my Rigby to hunt elk it far to big nor do i hunt Elk with my Ruger 458 win mag or my 50-110 BRL thats all over kill .
How many sheep have you shot that have gotten up and walked away after being hit with a bullet from your 378 Weatherby . ?
In truth .. cutting through all the B.S you might hear on this web site ..
A 300 Weatherby or a 300 win mag will do that job with out having to resort to a " Big " bore
But its your call buddy ... do a check on

Martin. It was RIP s thread about African Sheep rifles that stirred me up. More or less I was just curious about the 416s lately.

Buddy theres not one hell of alot that i wouldn't shoot at with a 378 Weatherby the only thing that "Might " be holding you up is which bullet for what and just when to use what type of bullet other then that you have yourself one hell of a rifle.. i put a 3/9 lep/ with peralex/
and a 3 1/2 inch sunshade on my 35x378 and it worked just fine if anything it was an underpowered scope but its hard to get a scope to stay put with that much recoil and to keep it sighted in ...
You lucky bugger
