I just brought a bunch of these from another AR member.

What do you guys think would be a good speed to run them at I can get up to 2650 with them in my 416 taylor. But would some other vel be better.

anything 2600+ sounds about right. It gives you 150 fps over the 338wm in 300 grains. It's a little light for buffalo, but otherwise should do great.

For buffalo you should go with 'guaranteed penetration' bullets like 350 gn TSX or a CEB non-con or Raptor.

If I would ever use on buff I have a few boxs of 350gr barnes X bullets to use.

The 300, will be my paractice, whitetail, hog black bear load.

then I would say that you are loaded for bear.

About twenty years ago we used .338" Barnes 300 gn RN softs on warthog over a waterhole and they were very impressive though no bullets were recovered. Warthogs didn't move over a step, though I don't remember the spines being hit. Velocity was probably around 2450-2500 fps, distances around 50-60 yards.

I shot my 300 gr barnes out of my Taylor this rifle has always been very accurate.

Loaded with 75grs of IMR 4064 for 2575 fps avg. At 50 yard put 5 shots into one ragged hole.

Evlevation matched the other bullets I have shot but windage was 3/4th inch to the left.

I tried 77 gr that would have given me about 2650 but grouped open up to 1.25 inch.

Ill take the accurate load any day I don't think any critter well know the differants.

I've been shooting Barnes' 300gr .411 dia TSX out of my 400H&H with velos between 2500 and 2700 fps. Using RL15 and H4895. Put one through a cow elk at 100yrds broadside it just whistled through her she ran maybe 30yrds and called it quits. An honest 300yrd round.
Good Luck and have fun
