Re: .450 3 1/4 <= who knows something...??
Hey,
the seller contacted me, but said that he has a second buyer who is intersted too and for him he reserved the gun as long as he tells him if he buy it or not ;(

So i think now i need more than just the money for the gun..something like a big portion of luck maybe.

By the way: Is there anything special to look after , when buying such a gun?
I think no matter the brand is, every brand has goods and bads. Are there any bads known especialy with francotte doubles?

Thxs

Would you mind if the inside of the barrel do have some light spots from oxidation??
Is it possible to polish the inside of the barrel, so the inside looks like new?
Or does it play no role how the inside barrel looks as long as the precission is okay??
cheers
Konst

You can polish the inside a bit and a blemish is not big deal. I am not sure exactly what it looks like so I can't say but it is probably ok. A good Double can be accurate with the rifling almost gone.

I would worry about pits in the chamber. This is not good and will cause the cartridge to expand into the pit and stick. A few minor ones in the barrels will look bad but not be a problem.

By way of a somewhat late response to your original plea, Konst, there was published a delightful article on the .450 Express by Ross Seyfried in "Rifle" magazine, July/Aug 2000. While primarily about the Express cartridge, it does cover a bit on the Nitro round. Worth getting for the history and early development of this most useful big-bore cartridge. Nickudu has a digital copy of the article, and may be amenable to an appropriate bribe!
