ZedoMost "practical" of the bigs!
.458 Lott -- boring maybe, but the thread is about "practical" not "exciting.

lavacaFrom impala to buffalo, my .416 Rem has done everything I've asked of it. The one buffalo it has accounted for was down in sight. Definitely prefer it to the .375 on all counts. Does it fall within the category of "most practical"? Probably, but face it, it's not really a big bore. I love my 470NE, but it's a double and therefore has limitations. Most practical? No. I've been eyeing a .458 Lott. Think that might be the "most practical" or at least my next one. Anyone have any good suggestions on justifications to the wife on why I "need" another rifle suitable for ele's and buff when I can only take two on the plane?

That's easy, brother! You are suffering under a self-imposed handicap.
You are entitled by US law to export up to three rifles on a foreign hunting trip!

lavacaGood point MR. Just joking about the wife anyway. After 27 years, she's pretty understanding, or just given up debating; I'm not sure which. In fact, she's encouraging an elephant hunt in the near future. (I think she wants a set of tusks to put around a fireplace).
