Buying a big bore

SwiftShotBuying a big bore
I toyed with the idea of buying a T/C encore mostly because I have wanted one for years. I wanted a 375 H&H so I thought I might solve both wishes with one gun. Well I am thinking more and more about just buying a bolt action.
I am looking for suggestions on the rifle trying to get this done for under a grand.
I have shot CZ in 338 and really like them but I am not stuck on one particular brand.
What are my chances of getting a custom rifle for under a grand.
Total price for a Encore with a 3 nice caliber barrels plus the 375 would be 920.00
I will be hunting in the U.S. and wont be go for brownies so the 375 is because I want it not really a need.
Thanks for the input

BusMaster007What are you hunting?
Where are you hunting it?
How many times might you have to shoot it and how quickly do you want that repeatability?
Narrow it down a bit, and the answers will be numerous.

For me, it was just having a ".375".
I chose a Remington 700 BDL in .375 Ultra Mag.
Neither is the most popular choice in the Big Bore section.
Regardless, it works for ME.

Zero.
But for $5K you can get something reasonably nice.

p dog shooterI personaly find swicth barreled guns a pain. I end up putting a barrel on and leaving it. Maybe if your in a country that limits the number of guns one can own they could be a good idea.
I would go out a find a good 375 bolt and call it a day.

hikerbumI have been considering an Encore. They are a somewhat strange looking gun, but the come up to the shoulder nicely.
Are you saying that you can get the Encore with 3 barrels PLUS a 375 Barrel (4 barrels total)for $920? That seems pretty cheap for what I have seen.

Mike ScottI really like my 375 HH Encore and you can build a custom Encore for 1K. Or get a Ruger #1 which would be my second choice. There are lots of 375s under 1K. What do you like?

577NitroExpressYou can get a barrelled action from Montana Rifleman for about $1000 and a McMillan stock for about $600. Without a scope, you can probably walk away with a "close to custom" gun in the $2500 range.

Hog KillerJust go find a Ruger RSM in 375 and be done with it. They are nice looking, have a 1/4 rib with express sights, scope mount, and CRF.
There are also, the Win Model 70 Classic and the CZ550. They cost less but may need some attention by a GOOD riflesmith. Total would be near the cost of the RSM.

Frank MartinezI believe if you look and are lucky you will find a Whitworth express for under a grand. I don't really think of the Encore as a custom gun so you are really asking two questions and I think you just need to decide what is right for you. Or be like some of the rest of us and just buy everything while you wittle your choices down to some final sweethearts.

TemboSince you already have and like the CZ, why not buy one and send it off to be worked over? You could probably find a nice used one for $6-700.
