I'm looking for a recipe that would get about 1200 to 1500 fps. If anyone isn't comfortable giving powder, charge weight and bullet information, please let me know if there are any published resources that I should be investigating. Thanks!

...Kind of like gallery loads..,., These are the place for a gas check cast bullet ...Most of the mold makers make a mold for 330 - 410 gr bullets.. .I use UNIQUE for this application , but I haven,t done it in the 416 because I don,t have any of these inexpensive cast bullets ... .,. I would do some research on [unique] Terry Wieland did an article some years ago on Gallery loads for Elephant Guns I think it was called something like that..,.,I use them alot and my wife REALLY likes them ....

You might want to get Quickload and play around with fast powders like Blue Dot, N110 or, for the speed range you require, even Unique or similar.

You want get any problems with a small charge in this big case if it's a fast handgun powder. Just keep the pressure in a safe range, more than 2000 bar I dount would be necessary.

I have no experience with this caliber but QL worked for me with the .338 WM and the 9.3x74 R.

sheepman, i use 50 to 53 gr of IMR SR4759 behind a 335gr Beartooth cast bullet. Reduce the powder if you use the 370gr bullet. I use the same loads behind jacketed bullets, too.

Accurate Powder shows a load with a 350 gr FN lead bullet, powder 5744 49.5 grains = 2086 fps. I've had good accuracy with 375 H&H with this powder. Bob

art - That sounds good as I have a large quantity of SR 4759. Which jacketed bullets have you used with this charge weight?

For reduced practice loads I use the cheap 350gr Speer.

I recommend using 25-28 grains of Unique with any bullet from 300-400 grains, preferably the lighter bullet.Place dacron filler on top of the powder to insure powder stays down close to the primer. I have done this and fired over 300 rounds using unique. 25 grs of unique will give you close to 1400fps. In the 416 Rigby 28 grains of Unique with the Dacron filler is roughly 1350 fps-1450 fps. The recoil is very close to a 410 shotgun and is great for practise getting accustomed to a new rifle and allows for great plinking without heavy recoil.
Also, these loads are great for fireforming brass to the chamber. Good Luck

aktoclat- That sounds like it would get me into the right velocity ball park. I've never used Dacron filler. How much do you use? How tightly do you pack it down? Is there any written material in any loading book or elsewhere that describes the procedure? Thanks for your help!

Accurate Arms XMP-5744 powder, 35 grains gives 1,640fps with 350gr RCBS cast lead bullet.

Also, Dave Scovill of Handloader magazine suggests treating the 416 Rem mag as the .450-400 cordite rifle of years ago. Use 44 grains of IMR-4198 with 12 grains Dacron filler, standard primer, 350gr cast lead bullet gives ~1700fps. It should be mild and friendly having good accuracy potential because of the insulating\protective qualities of the Dacron wad.

I'm not sure there is a reduced load as slow as 12-1500fps.

40 grains of Accurate Arms 5744 and the 350 gr Speer Works like a charm in my rifle!

i like 76 grs of reloader 15 and 350 gr speer.Its 2400 fps and does not kick bad.

Looks like you 'won' the 'race'. Mine won't be to me until next month. I was able to find some 350 Speers (quite a hard item to find these days-if you know where there are any more please lmk) and picked up some 5744 at the same time. Looking forward to trying your 40 gr. load. Do you know what kind of velocity you're getting with that load?

Dgr - thanks for you pet load. I'll try that, too. I plan on using RL15 for both the 350's and the NF 370 flats and solids. Besides, I just like 76 gr of RL15; that's my 300gr load in .375 .

I have no idea what the velocity of the load with 40 grains of powder gives but it's accurate in my rifle, mild in recoil, and loads of fun to use in practice. I bought my 350 grain bullets from a gun show guy and took all that he had at the time. I haven't looked for other sources. Good luck with that new rifle!
