CanuckLead Sled for BIG BORES that KICK!!
I picked up a Lead Sled in 2006 when I was playing around a lot with my 470 Mbogo, doing a bunch of load development/bullet testing and getting ready for a cape buffalo hunt in Tanzania at the same time. I was worried about shooting it from the bench a few hundred times and developing a flinch just before my hunt. Anyhoo, I only put about 20 lbs of weight on it -- it worked like a charm and saved my shoulder a lot of grief. I still use it often for sighting in etc, but seldom ever put any weight on it. Haven't ever had a problem with a stock or scope, but as I mentioned I don't weight it down much or often, and that would probably lessen any risk.
Cheers
Canuck
I use my lead sled without putting lead on it. It works fine and is great for working on loads for my 404 Jeffery.

From the limited experience this blogger (me) has with big bores, stocks, and recoil, please pay special attention to the point above about the energy going somewhere...
