First over 40?
Went and shot a friend's 458 Win Mag last week. Now I'm finding myself wanting to get something bigger than my .375 H&H. I know I don't really need it, but I find myself wanting one.

Choice is between 404 Jeff, 458 Win or Lott. Prefer bolts, probably because I've never fired one but I have seen the pricetags on doubles.

Do you handload? If so, get a Lott. You can load it at levels from a light .45-70 all the way to full-house .458 Lott.

A .404 will always be just a .404, and you'll have to concern yourself with which chamber dimensions you got stuck with when looking for factory ammo and brass.

I'd vote the LOTT no matter what based on these three!

It will shoot the 458 win mag with zero complications as well as it's own caliber.

If you are good with a NON take-down boltaction use www.rifleactions.com - save over $1500 if you choose the synthetic stock over the wood.

If you really want a take-down maybe www.dakotaarms.com.

You can buy my unfired 5 shot BELTLESS design and lower pressure, .450 Dakota calibered rifle which I got from www.rifleactions.com (NON take-down) synthetic stocked with a collection of bells and whistles including Q D Scope.

PM me if you want pic's and price.

or,
you could pick up an enfield or Remington M30 and build a 50, like my 510KX (416 Rigby necked up to 510). If you are going bigger than a 375, stop at half an inch hole in the front of the barrel.

I'd go with the Lott, versatile across a broad spectrum. The 416 Rigby and 500A-2 are too but the Lott makes the most sense.

Looks like 458 Lott is the way to go. Probably going to be in a CZ 550.
