How to put my RSM .375 H&H on a diet?
I have a RSM in .375 H&H. It is a very nice rifle but about 1.5-2 pounds too heavy. I would like to weigh about 8.5 pounds WITH rings and a low power variable scope. Any suggestions about how to put it on a diet? Does anyone make a lightweight Kevlar/synthetic stock for the RSM?

Looking at my RSM in 458 Lott, the easiest way to remove weight would be to have a gunsmith mill off the quarter rib on the underside of the barrel into just a barrel lug. I have to think that just removing most of that underside quarter rib would take off close to a pound. Obviously the gun would need to be rebedded after that.

I don't think that I would mess with it, why not SELL it and BUY another gun, it will save you money..these things have a way of running up your cost of living.. shocker

If its one of the older guns then you could have the barrel turned down as they do have too much metal on them, glass the stock and swiss in inside, swiss the magazine area and drill out the butt stock, the standard stuff. Whatever you do will definately ruin most of the resale value of your gun.

I saw a RSM .416 that someone "lightened up" and also a brake on it and a recoil pad that was about 2.5 in thick. It was an abomination. If you want a light weight .375 you can buy the remington SPS for a song.

remove the scope and put on a peep sight.

I have already pulled the scope off. I did help.

Guys, how about this. Maybe it needs to be another caliber. How about getting it re-barreled in .500 A-Square? Anyone ever do that with a RSM?

You may want to see if there is enough barrel wall to have it rebored to 50 caliber. That would reduce the weight of the gun.

You could just call her fat and tell her that just touching her makes you nausious and that she no longer appeals to youdiggin Wink
All kidding aside I agree that getting a lighter gun would probably b the easiest way to go.
