What's Up With 458 Brass?
Midway only had Norma (@ over $1.50 each), Graf's, Weidner's, Lock Stock & Barrel and several others didn't have any, period.

My local honey hole was out.

Finally went to Sinclair International, figuring mostly precision and highpower guys go there and they won't mess with 458 brass Smiler Sinclair had it...

What's the deal?? Has the Lott and the 416 dried up demand that no one bothers to carry it, or was their a recent run on the stuff and I'm the last to find out?

Olin/Winchester produces .458 win in periodic runs. Their last run was spring of last year. Once they're out, it can be a while until there's another lot produced. When they DO produce a batch/lot, their prices are quite reasonable. Last time, I purchased a stash of it... then it was all gone. It will come around again...

Tony has 458's:

http://216.15.64.227/bin/index.cgi?cmd=categorysearch&args=21&startat=96&

It is listed as 1,000 count, but I know for a fact he has 50 count bags. Handled some at the local gun show last weekend.

email him here: tntinc@enter.net

Not sure of this but there is 458 lott brass around. Could you purchase that and simply cut it down and run it thru the resizer or would the neck end up being to thick?

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

Tony's website reports being sold out of 458 brass. I tried at 1500 EST today.

Lucky I have a few hundred cases. We should as a group, email Winchester/Olin and maybe persuade them to push the production schedule up a bit. I know I'm going to.

Is it just me imagination, but has the 458 win. gotten more popular suddenly? The latest American Rifleman has another article on shooting Big Bores, and there was an article on a homebuilt 458 about 6 monthes ago.

akalinin,

I just got off the phone with Tony at TnT Reloading.

He said the software on the website is programmed to say out of stock when inventory is less than stated.

He made a physical count and assures me he has 150 remaining. Give him a call tonight before about 9 eastern or tomorrow. He said he is leaving for a gun show Friday in S. Carolina and is positive all will be sold there over the weekend.
