Stock for CZ550 .416 Rigby
Hi,

I broke my stock last trip to Zim. Finally got my rifle back with the new stock (hand made here in Aus) and it looks great but boy is it heavy! With one mercury reducer and a 1.2-5 Zeiss it is 5.75kg, 12.6lbs. Good for taming recoil but heavy to carry for 10-12hrs!

Anyone know where I can get a Bell and Carlson stock? Cannot find anyone in Australia and not sure how hard it is to get delivered to Aus?

I'd use this for hunting trips and leave the nice heavy stock for the big game club shoots or move it to my Gibbs project when I finally kick that off.

Thanks

Daniel

Personally, I would contact either the Australian dealer for CZ or else CZ-USA. They have changed their styles over the years and gradually added crossbolts. Originally, they assumed that the barrel lug in the forearm would be enough. CZ-USA has given good customer service in the past whevever any of their stocks has broken.

For something lightweight, try Boyds Gunstocks, also USA. They offer pre-cut, inexpensive stocks for most rifles and in many styles.

Tried CZ Australia but they get from CZ Europe, not USA and CZ Europe doesn't supply synthetic stocks. I will try CZ USA and see if they will help.

CZ Aus not much help.

Cheers

CZ-USA shows that they have one 550 Kevlar stock in their inventory. I have one on my CZ 550 American 9.3x62 and I really like it. Here is the link: http://shop.cz-usa.com/Product...erican-Safari-Kevlar

Yes, CZ-USA has an exclusive deal of some sort with Bell & Carlson regarding the CZ 550 Magnum "Kevlar" stock.
You can only get them from CZ-USA in Kansas City, Kansas, USA.
Without a doubt it is a BEST option for stocking a CZ 550 Magnum.
It will be a drop-in fit for your .416 Rigby.
I did that once with a .416 Rigby CZ and it put 3 shots into 0.75 MOA with my handloads.
Just throw away the F-block (leave it in the wood stock) and ferrule from the secondary recoil lug contraption on the barrel.
If your rifle, for some reason, does not shoot well as a drop-in on that full aluminum bedding block,
then glass bed it from the primary recoil lug out to the secondary recoil lug remnant on the barrel, and free float the rest of the barrel.
The CZ 550 Magnum "Kevlar" composite stock weighs about 2.5 pounds. tu2

My CZ 416 Rigby came with the Kevlar stock and I really like it. Shoots well too. Spot on 9 lbs before Warne rings & scoping it.

Thanks Mike, much appreciated. I'll see what needs to be done to post to Aus, should be people that can do that. Not long till your gentlemen's hunt now. I met Al in Perth on his way through and he's already worried about the pranks!

I can't log on the web link Biggs300 posted as it's blocked unless you're in the States. Any chance someone could let me know the price?

Thanks

Here's a tip that might help in carrying a heavy rifle for long periods. For a right hander: Run the forward sling outside your left bicep, then under your left arm and across your chest. Then under your right bicep and outside to the buttstock attachment. Bring the rifle up to the cross chest position then push out slightly on the rifle til it is under slight tension. This takes the weight of the rifle off your elbows and allows your upper arms take the weight. Whe you need to shoot, pull the rifle in towards your body til the sling drops free of your arms. For a left hander, reverse the process. I discovered this trick some years ago and it works. Try it and find the way it works best for you.
