A Greener-actioned plinker ...
Fellas, I am slowly getting this Greener big bore peoject done. With bluing, stock shaping and finishing and a butt plate, this dude will be ready to rock and roll. Caliber is .577 3-inch. I will only load to nitro-for-black pressures. Still, oughta be fun.

I´m looking at renovating a Martini action that looks pretty much the same -but it´s smaller!

Looks like I´ll be going for 30-30 so you win hands down!

Geez, that doesn't look like it weigh very much. What's it weigh? You goin' traditional and putting a metal butt plate on it? I bet you'll get a lot of volunteers to shoot this gun, NOT.

475: It's at 11 pounds as you see it, and will probably finish out closer to 12 with a buttplate and all the innards installed.

If Bill is going with the Nitro for BP loads, ie: 650gr @ 1650fp and weighing 12 lbs. It should be a hoot to shoot. I would volunteer, and I bet most of the "Band of Bubbas" would too. Then there is our cousins, the DRSS guys, they would go for it too.

Something that light, it's gotta hurt. The Lott and the 470 is plenty for me right now.

Having shot Doc52's beautifull SxS 577NE with full house loads in a 13 lb 6 oz rifle. The 12 lb Martini with N/BP loads should be FUN.

To take it a step further, I would have the barrel engraved with ".577NE 3-Inch BP Loads Only".

Lookin' good otherwise!

I must can't read no more. Gotta be dyslexic or something, never noticed that it wasn't a 577NE. It just may be ok to shoot except for the metal butt-plate.

Hey Bill,
Tha's going to be one lovely and fun rifle to use. I don't know much about martini actions.. did this start life as a 12gauge shotgun? I'm looking forward to your range and hopefully game results...she's going to be a beauty.

Fordnutter: I got the action already barreled and chambered to .577 3-inch from Congomike here on the forums. It likely was a 12-bore in its first life ...

Got me thinking about this Webley Scott single barrel 12 gauge shotgun I saw the other day! Conversion anyone?

I bought one of those Martini-henry 14 ga police shotguns and spent quite some time rebuilding the action and bushing the firing pin.. I was going to fit a 12 Ga rifled barrel to it and see if it would stay together with a 12 GA FH short load. It looks like it just might survive. With a nice stock it could be a neat gun.-Rob

Fordnutter: Just keep in mind that if the Webley Martini is the take down model with split receiver, it won't be as strong as the solid Greener police model (which should be cheaper too).
