Hunting For Adventure.375 Ruger Questions
Gentleman,
You might have seen this in the Africa general section and i realized that it should probably be in here.
I am not attempting to start a battle or get into a ballistics pissing match. With that said, i have been searching for a big bore for quite a while now. This weekend i came across a nearly new (10 rounds through it) .375 Ruger African. It is priced pretty well in my opinion at 675, sans rings and scope.
Questions:
1. Would this be a good first DG rifle?
2. Are hunters pretty happy with this rifle and new chambering.
Once again, basic questions. Please don't jump on me as i have done a search of the forum but can't find much definitive on Rugers latest offering. Many thanks.

458WinThe 375 Ruger African is the best thing to hit the big bore rifle market since Winchester introduced their M-70 African in 375 H&H.

kreytenSilent T,
I bought Gumboot's Alaskan and am very pleased with the 375 ruger. I have found the round to be very accurate with a variety of bullets.
I have no DG experience but don't think you would be disappointed in the African. There was some info about the stock cracking on the earlier versions.
Good luck and good hunting.

+1
I have two Lt. handed Ruger Africans and my son used his to shoot a nice buff this year in Zim. Totally impressed, the weight of the rifle, new stock design and the cartridge are perfect, best bigbore for lefties on the market IMO. Both rifles very accurate sub-MOA. That is a great price for one and it's a great first bigbore or only bigbore you'll need to tip over any critter you want to.

old4x4I've got the Alaskan and I love it! It shoots great with EVERY bullet I load for it. I can't find an inaccurate load.
Took a moose earlier this fall with it (in the rain). Great gun/ctg!

canamI have the alaskan and also had the african. These are great rifles and the 375 ruger is one of the best designed cartridges for dangerous game. These rifles appear to be very accurate and the african will drive a 300gr to 2600 with moderate pressure. The only downfall is, it might be difficult finding ammo in africa.Other than that it's a winner.
