Question For Robgunbuilder or any other gunsmiths?.
Rob,

My .416 has begun jamming in that it will not feed a round from the right hand side as the mag follower is getting stuck on the right hand side of the mag box. This means the follower is not lowering enough to allow the cartridge to enetr up into the chamber as it is stuck between the follower and the rails that hold the shells in the mag box. The cartridge on the left hand side feeds know probs.

This has only just started after fireing 30-35 shots on a hunting trip in the previous few days.

Is it an easy fix???

Jeffeso,

it is getting stuck really hard. The first jam I tried to force the shell which I now realise was stupid, as a consequence I had to loosen the action screws to free it up.

I have just been looking at my .416 and I changed the action into it's original stock and the problem does not occur. The problem only seems to occur in the custom stock I have had made for it. The follower seems to be catching somewhere at the rear of the mag box.

Anyone else got any ideas.

You didn't say what kind of action.
Is the custom stock "deeper" than the original, creating a bigger than normal gap between top of magazine and bottom of action? An edge of the follower could wedge into the gap.

Maybe take the follower + spring out and peek in there with a dental mirror and flashlight, comparing between the two stocks?

Good luck,
Todd

PC- I assume your talking about your CZ550? If so make sure with your custom stock that you don't have a slight gap between the top of the mag box and the bottom of the action rail. This is a common problem. If so you will have to inlet your floorplate deeper. I doubt it's the spring or anything very difficult to troubleshoot. Get some dyechem, spray a dummy cartridge as well as your follower and determine exactly where it's hanging up and why. Another possibility is that the custom stock has some wood that is bearing on your mag box and not allowing the follower to follow thw mag box. Relieve the wood or grind the follower till it will follow smoothly.-Rob

Yeah folks it is my cz 550, and I think the follower is hanging up in a gap between the mag box.

I suppose I will have to pack the thing up and send it back interstate. Our postal service alway's winges when they have to handle a rifle.

Thanks for the advice folks.
