BigFiveJackStraight Bolt Handle vs Bent Bolt Handle
http://www.hartmannandweiss.co...lt-action-rifles.phpI like that straight look.
We all know Winchester and a number of others have bent B/Hs.
Does one have a functional advantage over the other?

AtkinsonWith the big bores and also according to your hand size, the straight bolt keeps the bolt knob off you trigger finger in recoil. That is its function, my size large hand has never had the problem but I know some ham handed boys that take a lick with every shot on a swept back bolt....Tradition and looks are second, but like you, I like the look and I like traditional big bores.

Cross LAs a personal preference I like the M-70 style.
Looks good and puts the bolt handle closer to my hand-I shoot a 13 in LOP so that I can work the bolt whole shouldered so a half inch or so makes a big difference to me.This is all for 338s 416s and 458WM have no experience with anything larger.

600 OverkillFire off a few full power 600's & you'll figure out quick why Wayne @ AHR straightens the big boys

BigFiveJack600 Overkill,
I'd like to fire a 600 OK but have not connected yet on that.
In the mean time, feel free to put your experience into words here!

IOWADONI have a .338-.378 Weatherby without muzzle break and heavier barrel I use for long range deer hunting. I had the bolt handle bent from swept back to strait down so my trigger finger would not get so badly beat up. I have large hands and swept back bolts don't work for me. I also think the strait down ones look a lot better.

Dan416My 458WM hit me on the trigger finger knuckle. In the change to 458AR, I had the bolt shank straightened and knob enlarged, Now, no problem.

Jack,
You're more than welcome to touch off a few anytime you can get to my neck of the woods in scenic Wisconsin. Who knows, after a snifter of cognac I might even take the brake off for you

BigFiveJackI appreciate the invitations guys!
I also appreciate why some of you
have gone with STRAIGHT bolt handles.
You've cleared the matter up for me.
600 Overkill's bolt looks like it's shaped
to not contact a scope mounted in the
typical position.

Yup it is tapered to fit a scope on the reciver if you go that route. I love the scout mount myself for this guy. It balances perfect and is super fast on target. Plus, no way the the scope can get you.

"no way the scope can get you."In this caliber that is a "no margin for wiggle room" issue!

AtkinsonI have no use for scopes on 458 Lott and up. I can hit a buffalo at 200 yards with a top of the back hold with irons every time, well make that 99.9% of the time..and I would not take a longer shot than that on DG. I can only recall a couple of long shots on African DG in a lifetime. On my 40 calibers I carry a scope along with me but hunt with irons. I might see a record book Kudu, if so I snap the scope on and take the shot or mostly these days I let the tracker or whoever pack my scoped .338, 9.3, or 375. but my present .416 Rem shoots the 350 at 2600 plus, and to the same POI as the 400 gr. so with QDs that return properly to zero it works perfect without additional rifles and its handy hauling one gun around all those airports..Just some suggestions to give thought to. A second gun is handy if the .416 goes so. but we have a nice camp guns in all our camps. I know, I purchased them.
