First CZ shoot...the good & bad
I finally went to the range yesterday and shot for the first time my .375 and .416 CZs. The .375 was a very pleasant surprise-very fun to shoot with easier recoil than my .338 Lapua TRGS. The .416 with 400 grainers wasn't bad, although you know there are some horses (and torque) under the hood. All in all very happy with the shootability of both rifles.

Now the bad. Both rifles have CZ made rings for the 550 Safari Magnum (or so they say on the packaging)- the ones with the recoil lug on the rear ring. The .375 wears a 1.75-6 Leupold and the .416 has a 1.5-5 Leupold. After boresighting both rifles shoot 10-11" low at 50 yards. The .375 is still 3-4" low at 100 yards with the scopes elevation maxed. What gives? Do other CZ rings have the recoil lug too? Needless to say I wasn't a real pleased camper about this, especially with a squirrel shoot next week!

Hi JKS,
My buddy has the same problem on his 450 Ackley. I asume that your 416 with the 1.5 to 5 will zero in OK. You will find that the 1.75 to 6 scope doesn't have the same amount of vertical adjustment in the scope as the 1.5 to 5 period. He is thinking of either shimming one scope mount base or having one of them milled.

The easiest thing to do is buy a set of medium height Warne rings.

I'll second Will's statement. Got a pair of Warne medium height for my CZ 550 Magnum and they are great!

Hi PC,
It's not the rifle it's the adjustment available in the 1.75 to 6 scope. Your guns are wonderful.

I have a 550 with the CZ rings and a Leupold 1.5-5 and it has plenty of elevation with 400 grain Hornadys going around 2400

Thanks for the responses guys.

Will,
My gunshop got in some Warne fixed mounts that I am going to try on the .375, but thank you for the offer.

Brownell's tells me the Warne rings fro the CZ are discontinued. I tried to buy a set last week. They still have a few low and xtra high. The bolt handle won't clear the scope on my 550 with the low mounts.

Stay with the CZ rings. A real gunsmith may remove metal from the top of one base ( dont thin it too much ) so scope is "on". Eventually some lapping of the rings is needed afterwards.

If there would be a lateral problem, the smith may extend the screw hole on top of the mount to one direction. That way even scopes with not centered reticles may be used.
