Which is better for a 500 A Square, wood or synthetic? I have a busted McMillan Express on my 500 and want a better alternative.

If wood is superior who makes the good wood stocks? If synthetic is better which manufacturer should I buy?

Thanks,
Nik

Hi Nik A,
Both materials should be good for the 500 A-Square. It's just that they should be built properly and re-enforced in the stress areas. Your McMillan stock should have been fine, glass bedded or pillar bedded or both. Internal cross bolts can be installed in the stock also. Where did your stock self destruct?

The stock delaminated inbetween the magazine well and the receiver recoil lug.

I have heard wood is far weaker, but I have heard that wood is just as good. How much is a good wood stock going to cost?

Hi Nik,
Try sending it back to McMillan and have look it over. It might have been a factory fault. Let them know it's for a 500 A-Square and they will probably reinforce the recoil lug area. I would start with them before spending any more money. If you would like to look at some stock wood prices try www.dressels.com.
