take the bigger caliber you will be dead before the 6 th round ever gets fired, IMO if they come at you and hope a few of the lions leave after a few shots are fired.

This is the classic case of not bringing the right gun for the Job!

Only gun i would feel comfortable with in that situation is a M-60 machinegun

Mac,
You owe it to yourself to shoot a Buffalo with the 577, its an awsome experience..It slays the big bulls with a vengence seldom viewed in the annuals of hunting...My PH used to have one, if fact I just recently sold it for him...

Mikfla,
..or a USAS-12 assault shotgun.20 shot drum of 12 ga 12 pellet 00 loads. You can drop a a dozen pigs with it if you spring them.
Unfortunately these dissapeared with our recent gun laws-well dispeared from public view anyway

Karl.

45nut,
You keep thinking along those lines and you won't be around long enough to enjoy our company if you hunt Buffalo very often with that 45-70 and that six shooter...

Well if women can hunt the Cape Buff with a bow and arrow these days(as I saw on another forum) or a muzzeloader ,I don't see what the drama is with a 45-70 or handgun.

Maybe the bow and arrow is more powerful, I'm not sure

For the situation you describe I'd want an M1A loaded with 180 gr. Noslers. Twenty round capacity and quickly back on target.

I loved this post. I don't have enough experience to have a valid opinion but it was fun.
My only experience with lion was not on foot and my PH said that was fine with him.
